Default The OVER Bet

Why do some people feel the need to massively over bet? I'm not talking about raising 4,5 or even 6 times the blinds but 30 times the blinds.Especially in ring games or early in tourny when blinds are small.
Your not really doing anything but risking alot for a very small gain.If you play this way alot sooner or later you'll get called and then it's just bingo,or you'll run into a big hand. In which you'll lose what little you've won.Just my 2 cents worth.

If you need a bigger pot play higher stakes games.Really why would anyone risk say 300 to 500 chips in a 10 chip blind.Even aces can be cracked and often are don't see the risk vs reward. If the object of the game is to win chips\money this seems counter productive.

hmmmm over bets of that amount usually they are trying to steal the blinds or perhaps protect a hand. It is better to get something for a hand then let people draw out on you however if they bet like that over and over all the time your right they will get called and better hope they have the goods to back it up.

I used to overbet like a ***** but it was mostly to protect a hand, for instance if i had say AK or KK id raise realllllly big, if i got a caller and the flop was something like A c 7 c 8c I'd bet very high again just to get the original pot, from the point that two draws are on the board i want to get out of that hand as quick as possible, its better to make a small gain than no gain.

However I stopped over betting because I started to bluff a lot knowing that people knew I played that way, and then people started cottoning on to that so I just started loosing huge pots when i could have scraped away with only a few chips.

So yes I agree the Over bet is bad if used either too much or in the wrong places, but it's poker and no limit at that, so the window of oportunity will araise at any moment to shove all in and or overbet because its a crucial part in the game and can be used, if used efficiently, to completely throw people off balance.

Occasional overbets are generally a sign of a player who has no confidence in playing premium hands. They see aces or kings and would rather get out of the pot straight away with a few chips won than actually play the hands for the maximum rewards. They will win slowly like this but overall they're wasting a good deal.

Repeated overbets are more a sign of a bingo player (rather like the all in culture sometimes seen). In this case a good player will wait for a premium hand and then call and probably take the pot. The player with the overbet would have to steal the blinds 20-30 times for every loss and this is unlikely so they will end up losing chips.

Either player is good to play against since the first is not taking as many of your chips as they should and the second if offering you free chips.

better believe it m8 nothing in life is sweeter than erasing a bingo players stack.... be patient and they usually play to your monster hand...before slinking out without saying VNH and bowing graciously
