| I have noticed on the tables that not many people seem to play position. I have always heard that position is very important. I tend to play hands differently depending on position. The further I get off the button the less likely I am to play lessor hands. My point of this thread is that that I don't think many consider position at all and it is said to be a very important part of the game. Do you play position and how does it affect your game. |

| Maybe this comment is because of the hands i remember. I seem to find that i get my best hands when i am one or to seats after the blinds and so rarely get anything when im in a late position. I feel im forced to push when i get my hands at an early spot. If i called then fine. If i get heavily raised then a fold is usually the best option if im not holded a brilliant starting hand.

I have been playing poker for about 18 months now. To date I have been an instinctual player - playing my cards but not my position or my opponent. However, since 'Lava started posting in strategic corner 2 or 3 weeks ago, I have read almost every new post on every new thread and I have had my eyes opened. In the past, I have come up against players whose names I have recognised from either the league tables or from the forum and was totallly outplayed by them. I was able to realise at the time what was happening, but I hadn't a clue how to stop it. Now I have at least an idea. For instance, I have become very good at a slow play (under the right circumstances obviously), but I canstill get stung by the same maneouvre. Getting back to the point, I don't currently play my position, but I am aware of positional play and I intend to correct this weakness in my game. One thing at a time though.

| i use positional play all the time, m80. i'll adjust my judgement call according to where im sat in relation to the button and others on the table. The button is defo the best postion but i also like the big blind especially if players allow me to see the flop. fut. |

| I play position but not the same way all the time, it depends on different things. For example if I am playing a real money game I consider position a lot, more than if I'm in a play chips game. I do still consider position in play chip games, but I'm far more likely to play a hand out of position and take more of a risk then, compared to a real money game. I think position is a very important part of the game, just as important as your hole cards, maybe more so a lot of the time. I used to think I didn't play any different with play chips or real money, but I know that is definately not true in my case. It does seem to be something a lot of people don't appear to think about. |
