It's simple, they were next in the deck to be dealt. That is the only logical explanation that I can give you other than your very unlucky or the game is rigged against you!

Probability. If you don't hold one the probability of A or K on the flop is 32.4% so you'll see it happen 1 time in 3. In fact the probability of A, K or Q is 57.0% which is why Jacks while good require careful play.

To continue, if you had pocket 10s the probability of A, K, Q or J on the flop is 69.5% or better than 2 times in three.

However, just because the overcard is on the flop doesn't mean someone has one in their hand.

For info with jacks the probability of an overcard by the turn and the river are 67.9% and 76.3% respectively.

1st question is how are you playing pocket jacks ??

if you play them the same as pocket A,K,Q's then then you opponents dont know if you have hit trips on the flop either.

then a bet is a must to find out where you stand, then you need to judge if your still holding the winner or not and play accordingly, either bluff it out or fold'um.

moving to stratagy

I accept all your stats are accurate, but with JJ preflop, you are probably holding the best hand. A real money game, position will decide how you play the hand, as any betting will be more indicative of other players hands.

On free chips, people will call bet and raise with almost anything, so I would bet big preflop, from any position, then, depending on the flop, play the hand accordingly. OK you are going to lose some, and that may mean taking a big hit, but with the number of fishes out there, you will win more in the long run.

The risk of losing is a good reason to only be playing on tables appropriate to your chipstack.

one good question that always springs to mind when I think of pocket J's is:

what would u prefer to be dealt pre-flop?

Pocket J's, or AK(suited OR unsuited) ?

Always a close one, i'd go for pocket J's over AK, as simply its percentages are higher- course AK is pretty good too

Jacks and AK have pretty similar percentages pre flop against multiple opponents. AKs is slightly better, AKo slightly worse. Against fewer opponents Jacks are statistically better so probably best always to raise Jacks to limit opposition while varying calls and raises with AK.
