| For me it depends on the number of people I'm playing against and how long we've been there. After a few bluffs I feel I have to show just because people will start to fish thinking I have nothing. There are fewer fish if they think you actually have a really strong hand.

| You have to uncheck the little box in the left hand corner (muck losing hands).

| All I could say is, whether you show or not to show, that's upto you. But it always brings better result if you do not bluff. This way, you may not win a lot, but at the same time, you won't lose either. |

| Roo's commment pretty much sums this up 4 me. I do often show my cards but never to be disrespectful. I think the guy mentioned was jus a sore loser.

| I have been playing for a few months now and having a fair idea of the people I play with, I have developed my own strategy for play. I am being mentored by a very very fine player on this site! and first off, I'd like to thank him. From all that I have learnt, I'd like to share my opinion on "Showing cards". Now, the main essence of a Poker game, as we know, is the rush, the thrill in the uncertainty factor. This is a game of incomplete information. When you are faced with difficult decisions, you are left to put together the pieces of the puzzle of the current hand. The lack of knowledge of what others hold, the uncertainty that lingers from the start to the finish of the game; pre-flop, post flop, at the turn, the river and even after the hand is over, is what drives everyone! I try to play the player more than the cards itself. Cracking the player, his moves, and his "poker behaviour" becomes the most valuable information that I can posses. As a rule, I never ever show my cards. Its a policy that works great for me. Ofcourse there are reasons to show and not show cards. But I like to never show. Because I never ever show, a player on this site, whom I see often at my tables, attacked me openly, saying mean things like - "Very Nice hand!", "Hope the cards you bet on, are the cards you have" and much more, each time I won a hand, when others folded, and I chose not to show my cards. I guess it is because he was affected as he was not sure, what cards I play with and was unable to guess my game. While one craves to know what the others played with at the end of the hand, it can get frustrating when everyone chooses, specially the winning hand, to not show the cards. It makes it difficult to answer simple yet important questions like: 1. Did I play correct? 2. Did I fold right? 3. Was he bluffing? 4. Did he have the cards? 5. Could I have won? And more. Because I never show, this may build the impression in cases when I have bet the pot with heavy amounts, that I am a bully. That I bluff. That I did not have anything. And the disadvantage is that, if I am not careful and continue not showing my cards...then if and when I bluff, I may get called and caught. (Coz the impression remains) But hey, I think I am not wrong and so far its worked fine for me. My goal is to win the chips and the game and not to impress others or to display what a good hand I got dealt or to show how nice a player I am and how correct and fair I play. |

| Hallo!! You should have posted this as a new thread lady..very good read, and thought put into it,for a change. You are right in what you say and..errm i kinda know who and how you upset, but i put them straight... ![]() At the end of the day it is a game..with rules that cant be broken, the best hand dosent allways win, knowing odds sometimes goes out the window....lucky streaks, bad streaks come and go... I think to be good at poker means at the end of the day you win more times than you lose. I love how you play, and if it works dont change it,i worked hard to get a reputation as a big bluffer, and it cost me a lot of chips..but when i have a hand...yummmz was worth building that profile ![]() I agree, its not the cards..its your opponent, nice call ![]()

| Incidently I had an earlier history with him too. I found him so arrogant and out of place that I blocked his chat for long. Of late it has been just fine. If he hs been genuinely nasty, it probably aims "à la kid in playground" to get you to show some hands (unsecurity, of course don't) or as a cheap trick to try to unsettle you. Don't let it go to you. Block him if needed and ignore. ![]() ![]() Now to get back to the interesting discussion, the topic. I mostly keep my cards hidden, but sometimes I do show my hand precisely for one of the reasons you mention. Quote:
When you are on a good streak and win a few uncontested hands in a row (or almost) you get much more likely to get called at some point. So first, it is crucially important to be aware of your table image at any specific time (not "in general" only). And if you have been on such a streak, it is likely a bad time to bluff or semi-bluff... but also to play some possibly-winning-hands-but-not-that-strong-either, which is a more common mistake. Now poker being a game of representation and incomplete information, showing a hand every now and then can contribute to the blurring of things for your opponenets (or for you to control the represnetation they can build of you at this stage of a game). I never fear this will give too much information because first I do that rarely and more importantly I vary my game a lot. So, in short, my point is that a "never" attitude, while totally correct in principle (and perfectly legitimate) can boomerang back at you if not following table image vigilantly or simply deprive you form time to time from controlling information available to others to your advantage. But that is just my two pennies. And your post was definitely interesting and well-written. Keep up the good games! Last edited by SternSwiss; 03-03-2010 at 06:27 PM.. |

| Great post Feudallady, well thought out and well written. By the way, welcome to the site and the best of luck to you with your poker. I like to mix it up a bit, show some winners, show some winning bluffs. I used to bluff and show far to often, but I think that ended up having an upside because several people now have me down as a regular bluffer, which I'm not anymore........or am I.........oh you work it out for yourselves and give me your chips along the way LOL

| That was a great post. listen lady, you play the way you want to play and don't worry about what other people think. I leaned that a long time ago when I was learning how to play. Just so you know I rarely show my cards. it keeps them wondering and that is good for you. I've played in casinos and for fun and the 1 thing I have learned is: the less they know about how you play the better off you will be. good luck hun and hope to see you at the tables.
