| [Newbies] A little poker strategy guide! read the small strategy guide, ring games and tourneys can be played same way. Offcourse good players will change their way to play in big tourneys but no need to start thinking too much ![]()

| The best advice I can give would be to fold any hands that are not pairs and hands that both cards are not 8 or above See how you get on with that Baz ![]() |

A,K,Q,J with 2,3,4,5 is a high card with a low kicker... Not a very good hand !!! If you have a high card, your second card should be at least 8 or 9. You'll have a reasonable kicker and a reasonable chance to win. Learn to fold early when you know another player is having a good hand (for example, when he is systematically raising or betting high). Tournaments are about patience and not being the one with the smallest stack. You need to bluff or semi-bluff with a good hand to get out of this position. If you only play good hands and be patient, you will see that other players will kill others players for you. They will often do the job until you get in the money. It is hard to kick out good players (or reasonable players) while the blinds are small. Be patient and wait until they rise. This is sometimes very very boring. Last, if you have a very good hand, bet aggressively: raise at preflop, go all-in by the flop or the turn... to make a lot of money. Then wait on your high stack and be patient. If you have a good hand, raise on players with short stacks, they react badly under pressure (they fold too easily or go all-in while they should not). |
