Default switching tables and knowing when to call..

When playing tornys we oftern get switched to another table on a regular basis, this is quite frustrating especially when you're just getting a read on the players on the table you are currently on.

The thing i find more frustrating though, is when you get switched to another table and you get dealt a nice decent hand like J 10 suited, for example. Its frustrating because when you do get switched and you get dealt a nice hand like J 10 suited i find making the choice to call, especially when the blinds are high, hard to call. The thing is you have no way of knowing what the table play is like when you get moved to another table.

My question is; What would you do if you was put in that position. Would you call or would you fold and wait to see if its a tight table or an aggressive table?

The tabel looks like so... you have 5000 chips and the table leader has 10000 chips. the lowest has 500 chips and you are mid way on from the button and everyone before you has called to the price of 1000 chips.

thx. fut.

Out of interest, what happens in real life multitable tourneys?

im assuming it would be 8+ players and blinds of 400 or more so, future, for me i would raise 3x the big blind

cant explain why exactly but it seems a good play to get limpers and the blinds(if they got bad hands) out of the way

and then after the flop youll pretty much know, but J10 suited is bound to catch something

lol but I'm not even close to a good poker player.. so I'm not sure how much my advice is worth

Play your opening hands as usual. A ring of up to 6 callers when you have anything better than 99 (no A10 offsuits or K9 offsuits, learn the card strengths) and you are a favorite for the pot. But you need to look out for aggresssive players looking for any weakness(you check because theres an overcard and he will dominate you), and for fancy players(they flop the nuts and you feel confident because they checked.

Online tournaments, people come in usually only those two flavours, and you play t their weknesses. A bluffer will play most any hand, and will raise most any hand. He doesn't look at the board, he just fires off blindly. Somebody who reraises you isn't usally a bluffer, and probably has a good strong hand, so read the board, and make your choices.

If everybody's gotten in the pot and its up to you to call with J10 suited call in that situation. You have the right odds, to play (research odds if you don't understand them should take 5 minutes tops for the basics). When the flop comes you should have either a straight draw, a flush draw, top or middle pair, open ended straight draw, or the nuts(fullhouse jacks over tens, 10s over jacks, 4 of a kind, 10s or jacks, or straight flush) any are possible, and youshould expect to get one of any at least 13% of the time. With 20% of your chips in the pot, and odds of at least 5to1 (80%), but with the chance of immediately doubling up if the flop hits you. and you left with 4000 chips if it doesn't.

In real life tables(not online) the game is almost the same depending on the stakes. Theres a lot of rich people out there, and theres also drunk people, and frustrated people. They play about the same, but you find on average more experienced players. So they do their math, and they've already got a ready on you in two hands(folded both and you'r edging towards being a tight player). Most people online don't respect largebets as often, which you should take advantage of, but offline they play things a little different, they study you first and see what your reaction to their stare down is.

either way , J10 suited is a must call for only 1000 chips in a 5-6 way pot.

That was a very good answer, Jmahoney. Jack/Ten is not a very good hand if it costs a lot to see the flop.

some good advise from all although not the same advise but advise i will take on board.

Seems like J 10 suited is a must hand to call, but the worry would be if some one went all-in after i a had called.

Prior to arrival on that table the same person may have been going in all-in everyhand for all i know and just being a bully etc. Or it could be the 1st time they've even called a for a few hands. So knowing whether to call or not depends purely on how lucky you are with the type of table you have just been moved too. But again, J 10 is a must call coz you can always fold if some one does go all-in.

thx again.

fut.

J 10 is also my favourite hand - it is so often a winning hand even unsuited.

Depends where your sitting in the betting cycle. If your on the front side, call and fold if raised. Back end and all calls, go ahead, pay to see the flop. Anything can and usually does show up.
