Default What should I do in this situation?

what do i do when there's four of one suit on the board, and i've got a good hand, like a three of a kind or two pair and somebody bets really high?

sometimes it depends on who is betting. maybe it's a bluff but of
course there's a big possibility that he's betting on a flush.
remember he just need one to have a flush.
trust your instinct, if you don't have the flush,
then it's also possible that they don't have it either.

I hate that situation. The more people still in the hand the better the chances are that one of them has the suit that's out there. It's a killer when someone takes down your kings and 9s with a dinky trey. My best suggestion is to carefully watch the betting before the flush draw was so prominent. Often times the players that have not been betting big hit the flush by chance. 9 out of 10 is probably a fold for this amateur

Its an easy situation... You should fold, by standart.

Example: There are 4 ppl on the flop, flop is 2 hearts and a spade, stacks are 800 and blinds 15. You flop a set.

Odds that your set is good are about 99%. If its a top set then theres no way anyone could have better hand then you.

Someone bets like 30, wich is probably betting his flush draw or a pair. everybody calls. Odds that your set is good now are about 60%. Because from 3 players = 6 cards odds are that somebody almoust definetly has a heart(odds to get heart is 4 to 1 and now from 6 cards its 4 to 6= 150% chance that some1 has it). And there are slight chance some1 might have finished flush(i'd say 10-20%)

Turn comes another heart.

Now someone bets like 100, cos he might have something like ace of hearts(semi-bluff) or finished flush. Everyone calls.(or maybe 1 fold)

Now river comes another heart and some1 goes all in and its your action.

Odds that your set is still good is about 1/10 or 1/20. If you keep calling in sitation like these, you will lose most of times. And eventually will go broke.
BOTTOM LINE: FOLD

P.S. Only reason you might call, is that you read the player very good and you know that hes bluffing. But thats another story.

Not quite 150%. With 3 players, the chances that any one (or more) has at least one heart are 1-(3/4)^6 = 82%.

The chances that any one (or more) has two hearts are 1-(15/16)^3 = 18%.

So Sleeper is right, with four hearts on the table you should fold your set. With only three hearts on the table you should normally take the risk.

Yeap, I agree that folding is what I do most of the time unless I know that someone bluffs alot. Then I might chance it.

In my experience you will probably by up against a flush. yes they may be bluffing but the safe play is fold you can't lose what you dont put in the middle.

First instincts are usually correct! Go with your gut and if the pot stakes are good (meaning high enough to warrant the risk) then go for it!!

I think a big mistake often made by new players is thinking that 2 pair is a good hand. Yes it can be a winning hand, but if there is a pair amongst the communitiy cards, or in the senario as described above with four suited cards it is not so strong.

Agreed: Usually you should fold, but like most others I might look at:

- Table image of the high raiser

- Phase (or level) in a tourney. At some last stages with very high blinds and depending on chip count (mine or the high raiser's one) I might want to make the move (but extremely rarely)

Sometimes people think that they've got to keep calling if they've already put in a lot of chips.....sometimes fold anyways.
