Default All in on 1st hand??

I'm a relative noob to poker, but I've seen something that intrigues me. In the mini-tournaments, I've seen folks going "All in" on the first hand quite a bit. Is this a successful tactic for the mini-tournaments, or is this a silly strategy by other noobs? Any thoughts?

Nick

It is a subject often debated. If you search under the strategy forum you will find a number of posts on this subject.

I think there is enough threads & post for a novel on that subject.
Please search the forum before posting yet another thread on the same topic.

I am also a noob , I think they are trying to pull a rabbit out of their hat!
I believe with a little patients and waiting for the right hand you will find that
You will have a much better time playing poker. otherwise it is like throwing darts
with a blindfold on.

True...but it's also about playing the odds. If the odds aren't in your favor, why risk it?

Usually its the 1k mini-tournaments where people go all in on first hand. If they lose, they can just go back to the poker room, and hit reset chips to 1000 and hit refresh tables. I usually only go all in with AA,AK,KK, or, if im short stacked, with any 2 high picture cards

dont be ashamed to fold if someone goes all in with what is probably a crappy pocket. It will show you are the better player.

Most of the greats on this site will fold a fair percentage of their hands

I love when amatuers go all in at the start of a tourney. They drop like flies. The sooner it gets down to real poker, the better.

i reckon people who go all in on the first hand dont give a damn about winning, so i just wait and let em hang themselves. hopefully anyway. But if it works for u then good luck
