How long have i been blaying poker?? For approx 4 years now only started online just over a year ago when i joined OP66

Am i an old skool player or just finding my feet?? I would have to say still finding my feet, i feel there is ALWAYS something new to learn and i also think that i learn something in every game i play

How do i rate my poker play? could i mix it with the pros?? Defo couldnt mix it with the pros, i feel i am a reasonable enough player but still make far too many mistakes

Do i play for fun or to make money??? I play mostly real money, but this is fun for me, i am not in it to make millions but i feel the standard of game is better if there is a few quid at stake

Poker itself does not mean that much to me, its this bloody place that i am addicted to, although what a feeling i get when i win one of the op66 tourneys

Played poker as far back as 23 years ago..back then was cash in Glasgow Casino's...never a millionaire however was always on the up.
Left it totally and re-started here for free in 07 enjoyed the by-play as well as the free play..
I'm an ok player with lot's of up's but lot's of down's
Poker means a release of sorts..no more no less.
I agree with M 80 i also am a mood player and i couldn't take it seriously enough to compete so is all fun now
Take care, Lou

wow im so suprised this thread has had so many responses that have been generally sincere. thank you very much all.

its really nice to read about peoples experiences and history regarding this game of poker. some have played for many years and others have only just started. But the one thing that stands out most is everyone seems to thoroughly enjoy playing poker... whether it be for fun or for real money.

How long have you been playing poker? about 18 months.

are you an old skool poker player who has played for years or just a newbie finding their feet? very much a newbie but also very much enjoying the experience of finding my feet!

how do you rate your poker play... do you think you could mix it with the pros?...are you a pro?? I think that im an ok player in the company of those that i regularly play with. could i mix it with the pro's... hmmm possible, but i think i'd probably get found out very early on and get mugged big time!

do you play poker for fun or are you out to make money? definitly for fun. i do play cash games but only for fun also. I have no desire whatsoever to play for anything more than a round of drinks.

What does poker mean to you? How does it effect your day to day life? could you do without it? Poker has very much added another chapter to my day to day life. as an example..i regularly check my diary to see if i can play the mammoth at the weekend...ive also cancelled many a appointment to play a game. could i do without it??... obviously i could, but i'd be a very moody pokerless person thats for sure

Since i become a member of this brill site (11 months or so). The cards are brill but it the members of 66 that make this a brill site. The friends you make and the camaraderie you have is the one reason i stay on this site!

How long have you been playing poker?

Played a lot of 5 card stud and some other semi open versions as a teenager / young adult. Did manage to spend a year in India 1996-1997 and come back with quite some benefits for I played local goons regularly and they were not too good (but loaded with booze and weapons. Rather fun overall a bit of "eastern" gambling joint, close to the "Western" imaginary, which these guys had strongly)

are you an old skool poker player who has played for years or just a newbie finding their feet?

I stopped 10 years ago approx and only took back serioulsy studying 2 years ago, while going through a though times in Holland and needing an "intelligent" hobby. Did play a lot and study a lot for a year approx, on free sites then resumed money gaming

how do you rate your poker play... do you think you could mix it with the pros?...are you a pro??

It really depends. I have won some local events and make consistent side income with poker for a year now. Nothing grand but nothing too ridiculous either, espcecially since I play little overall nowadays.

I think I'd be hammered in a big league but would love to try a series of game (though not ready to spend the cash)...and just one is too random.

do you play poker for fun or are you out to make money?

For fun. I make a good, creative, living. But I love the game. And it takes it's full shape when some real money is involved, I find. No more bogus calls if serious cash is involved.

What does poker mean to you?

A fascinating game that I would like to study more but not a professional horizon. More one of my numerous activities, a hobby to build-up.

How does it effect your day to day life?

Not really. Gives me good time wheh I decide to play.

Could you do without it?

For sure, though I love the game.

been playing about 18 months, with a 4 month gap in the middle

defo just finding my feet as ive only recently improved my style in a personally noticeable way ..... to be a bit more consistently aggressive and spot dodgy play from others and jump all over it in order to win more pots whether the cards hit or not, easier now ive got a little experience i guess

like i said i would have rated my play as mediocre ( 4/10) at best really, there a lot of players on here who i regard as a lot more talented/ skilled than me...... no pro mixing for me yet

for money just recently, mostly for fun,

I have a "talent" for and love of maths so poker combines this nicely with my numbers o.c.d and friendly psychological warfare... great game in other words, made far better by regualr play on this site with all u lot

How long have you been playing poker?
over 2 years now thanks to this wonderful place that gives me joy daily
are you an old skool poker player who has played for years or just a newbie finding their feet?
I would say inbetween there. I feel like I have been playing poker forever and it is a great way to spend my time and use my brain

how do you rate your poker play... do you think you could mix it with the pros?...are you a pro??
Learning is an everyday thing. I suppose I could give it a try with the Pros. I am not sure if luck and my skill would fare well. But why not
Just to sit across from Phil Ivey or Phil Helmuth would be a thrill

do you play poker for fun or are you out to make money?
I play both. I love the free side for medals and points. Most importantly my friends ( LOVE YOU ALL <3) and my lovely club ; )
I also dabble on the moneyside (trying to win money for our wedding Jim ) I do okay there. Those re-buys are murder.

What does poker mean to you? How does it effect your day to day life? could you do without it?
It changes from day to day. Some days you have the confidence you could make it in the pros and some days bingo plays and other things you affect your chips and way of thinking. but hey you can't win everyday , right? I come here for the best poker site there is because of the lovely people who make it great! The competetion also keeps me coming back for more. Yes I come here everyday...it is my needle lol

I have been playing poker for 20 years plus but in the beginning it was stud and draw as it was all the rage when i was in the navy as when your at sea there is not a lot else to do other than get drunk !!!!! but discovered holdem but 10-12 years ago and fell in love with it.My play is very up and down, i think i play well with a big stack but you have to get one first and that is sometimes my downfall, but quite often go on gut feeling which quite often works, but when is doesn't you look like a plum Wouldn't call myself a pro but i do understand the game but i think if i had to call a £250k pot my bum would be twitching At the moment don't play for cash online only live tourneys for cash as i am a bit of a people watcher (very hard online ) hard to get reads and tells online. I play online because i enjoy poker, i enjoy the banter and use it as practise but do treat it as real money otherwise there is no point.
i could live without poker but it would be very boring, and i'm sure if i didn't work as much as i do i would play more,as you never stop learning and no two games are the same, and i think the many different styles of play always make it interesting, but being able to change gears at the right time is one of the most important things along with bet to pot ratio.

How long have you been playing poker? About 2 Years

are you an old school poker player who has played for years or just a newbie finding their feet? I'm always learning, not a noob but by no means pro either.

how do you rate your poker play... do you think you could mix it with the pros?...are you a pro?? I think I'm you know about 6-7/10ish lol I'm very hot and cold.

do you play poker for fun or are you out to make money? Play mostly for fun. I have played for money, nothing official or all that legal but I have done lol.

What does poker mean to you? How does it effect your day to day life? could you do without it? It used to mean a ton to me. I used to get stressed as hell over it. But now it's just a bit of fun there for me if I need a calm 2- 3 hours to get away from everything else in life; which by the way is a lot more stressful lol.

Im going to be to honest with my answers but here we go.

How long have you been playing poker?
I got interested in poker a while back but only played my first game here on OP66 about 16 months ago, i think.
First thing i did was learn what are the best hands but sadly ive not really learnt much else since.

are you an old skool poker player who has played for years or just a newbie finding their feet?
I wont beat about the bush or lie to myself/others.
I am most definately a complete newbie.
By now i should know about poker odds, counting outs and a whole lot more.
Basically i have not got much of a clue,i play my own cards and follow gut instincts far to much. I still find myself playing out of possition.

how do you rate your poker play... do you think you could mix it with the pros?...are you a pro?
Realistically, on a scale on 1-10, i am 1/2 if i am brutally honest. How could i possably mix it with the pro's if i have only just learned the minor points of the game.

do you play poker for fun or are you out to make money?
For some stupid reason i started to play for money about 6 months ago. I find that side of the game more fun and take more pleasure from winning.
I have discarded any cash i put into the last script and i am now slightly in profit.
If i am to start increasing my bankroll i really need to increase my knowledge.
I have had alot of small wins and ( for me ) one large cash win. $600 for 6 hours play cant be bad but it doesnt pay the bills, yet.

What does poker mean to you? How does it effect your day to day life? could you do without it?
Poker is an absolute pleasure.
OP66 has really changed things for me and its not just the poker here.
I dont play cash here and i dont play free chips here that often either but i can not leave, no matter what.
OP66 is the first site i found and what a find it was. The people here are so good that the ones i have got to know are true friends dear to me.
My poker on the other hand has moved on to something that i hope will at least yeild me a second income, along with being my favourite hobby.

Im not sure how i could live without it because i have not considered doing without it.
Given the choice between doing a days work and sitting down to play poker for the same amount of hours, i would pick poker any day of the week.
One day i hope to learn enough about the game and make enough money to give up the daily grind. Part of which stems from the fact i hate handing out my hard earned wages to the uk goverment which i see no benefit from.

Poker is a fantastic game on many levels. You can take it as far as you want.

Great thread Fute

My local pub had has been having games for about 2 and half years and i watched the games and got the basics but i didnt really understand the blinds and multiple pots etc. I joined this site to learn in May 2008 and then played my first game in the pub in the late June - i was a nervous wreck. I won the game - i now know that was because no one had a clue what i was upto lol. I had a bit of luck in the first few games but the more i understood the play the less i won - i had become too tight - always at final table but always low stacked and ended up getting blinded out. I changed my approach in January 2009 and i also improved my positional play - since then i have been very succesful by mixing up my game a lot. Always learning - always adapting
