well it depends which type of mini tourney it was. if it was a newbie tourney then you should practice more before going into the big ones, but if it wasn't a newbie mini tourney then yea why not give it a try. reason is that in newbie tourneys everyone there is a newbie so if you lose against them then you will have an extremely low chance at the big tourney because many players there are really good. hope i helped =)
