Default I didn't know this rule

Came across this in the 'International poker rules'

Have to admit, I wasn't aware of this rule.

53-6. In certain situations, a player with the last right of action that “checks” an undisputable winning hand, “the nuts,” will incur a penalty and may be found guilty of soft playing; that may result in “disqualification.”

I can see that being enforced in a real life game, but doubt any online script is programmed to enforce it.

Personally, I would say they deserve punishment for such bad play !!!

Going to go and read the rules now, seems they are going to be longer than I expected if that is 53-6 !!

Yep Stevo, I remember seeing a you tube clip of a defending WSOP champ doing exactly this and being penalised one orbit (i'm sure it was posted on this forum).
He said he didn't know the rule and pointed out if he had bet his opponent would have folded so he checked to see his cards.
The rule is there to stop collusion.

I've done this once with a royal flush, but that was when I used to always show my hand. I wouldn't do it now.

Yep they are long fozzy, but a lot of them relate to refereeing the game rather than playing it. And I suspect your right about the online comment.

Really Sandy, wow you would think a pro would have known the rule.

I wonder if there are any more eye opener rules? I stopped at this rule but will have to read the remainder another time.

1 thing that springs to mind tho for casino's etc is the rake. if someone does not bet and get called they wont take the rake from the final bet/call

Yea sorry Tel, I downloaded it as a PDF and its a bit long to copy and paste. Not sure if we can post a link to another site? but if you google FIDPA (THE FEDERATION INTERNATIONAL de POKER ASSOCIATION) it's the first site to come up on the list, then it's real easy to find.

Had this happen in one of the local pub where I play. Guy checked a full house. After some flop and turn bets/raises...there where only 2 players left in the hand.
Turns out he checked after his "buddy" checked as they were both playing "together".
Everyone was pretty peed off at the table to say the least.

yeah I learned this rule when Darvin Moon (poor bloke) really had trouble knowing where he was at in a hand and only went deep because he "ran good". But he was in position with the nuts and failed to bet and got in trouble.

Darvin Moon didnt run good....he had a godly run, picking up monsters vs other monsters which he had crushed.
Was great to watch though

Indeed. He deserved the win much more than Joe Cada... absolute luck sack.
Him and Jamie Gold were my least favourite winners.
