Its not all about the flop it is about playing position as well. The question was asked "what happens if i dont hit the flop with AK". In my opinion you have to make a bet if you are first to act. If the flop is low and you are the original raiser and you make a bet as fist to act, the other players will at least put you aon a pair then and it will make them nervous". If you are last to act then you have to go off the betting in that round.

The biggest problem is that in free poker (certainly the rings) your initial bet with AK wont get enough people of the pot and players will call it with 72 83 etc - if enough are still in then one of them is bound to win with some rubbish. In real money or tournie poker your initial raise should have only kept players in play who have a pair or connectors or a similar hand to you. The betting after the flop will then be a lot easier to read

Against every other combination you are favourite.

The reason most people lose is that they don't eliminate the opposition quickly enough, they limp in with 4-5 others and wonder why another hand beats them. You ideally want 1 or 2 opponents in any fight where the odds are for you. Put in a big pre-flop raise 4-5x the big blind or more if you are against loose players.

If they call then you may lose but at least most of the time the odds are in your favour. If whenever you bet this is the position then in the long run you will be a winner.. Luck doesn't come into it.

Hope this helps

Mac

AS USAUL MAC HAS IT RIGHT, YOU DON'T WANT TO PLAY AGAINST EVERYONE AT THE TABLE WITH IT, ISOLATE YOUR OPPONENT WITH A BIG RAISE AND YOU WON'T LOSE TOO OFTEN

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION

big slick can be both a great hand and a bitch at the same time.

use your position and knowledge of the table to make your choice.
i sometimes like to slow play it and see a cheap flop if i can and further my options that way.
or if i am in late position on cutoff i will always put in a fair size raise if there are just me the button and the blinds in.

on the button if no callers before me i raise everytime.
in fact in that situation i raise with almost any two cards.

but ak suited is only about 2% better than o/s i believe.

but as the saying goes" play the person as hard as the cards"

i won a cash game with 15 strangers last week playing tight aggressive, or so it seemed.

i showed a few good hands when i raised them out of the pot and used that showing to bluff a few good pots.

showed a couple of bluffs then changed tactics again and again.
they couldnt read me.

i took down the 2 table tourney on my first go.
sweet as a nut.

i even won the game with an ace high str8 lol. his face was a picture.
