This is what I have.

And this is how I have it set-up at the moment. Still go so much to organise.

And the 6 others, from left to right.

Sort of but no so it was hotter than any other phone ive had.
The only exception (probably) would be the other night. It was on charge via the usb lead and I had left it on top of my laptop, right where the hottest part of it is (near the fan vent). The led started flashing orange/green/orange/green, which I now know is a overheating alert. I just read this on another forum.
"
If the battery temperature is rising above 50C and the phone is charging, the processor will shut the charging and will give this warning.
This is to protect the battery. There is a limit of 60C for the battery"
That is pretty warm.
Anyway, when this happened to me, it seemed ok to touch. I just unplugged it, took the back cover off and blew on it for a minute. Alert LED went off. Seemed fine after that.

In fairness, Ive not yet had a call with this phone that last an hour or more, thats when other phones Ive had have got very hot.

What was your good lady doing when she found it was very hot?

Ive heard nothing about overheating dangers about the phone but I will have a look about to see what I can find.

She just had the phone in her bag so wasn't being used or charged and not near any heat source

Perhaps it was just a bad battery.
Or something running in the background, but that would be odd aswel.

Update
Got "handcent" message app the other day and just been messing about with all the settings.
Read that it could be a bit glitchy but i'll give it a whirl.
Much nicer that the stock app and so much more customisable.
Could be a bit power hungry though but might just have been from all the set-up I've been doing.
Only let down so far is the widget ain't as good as stock one.

Oh, and before that, back-up all my messages to sd card with "SMS back-up and restore"

Gotts love all these free apps
