my opinion on avators to blacklava

hi people i was kinda confused by the vator 20 posts thing so i querered blacklava about it... this is what i said...

i dont mean to be rude blacklave but i dont really see the point in having to make 20 posts on any threads.

well actually i do but if i have been playing for quite awhile and havnt posted on the forums because i like poker not peoples stories and stuff...

so im thinking to myself well i dont really want to be posting but i really want a avator for my charactor... so i have a idea ill simply post 21 posts on threads which take my interest slieghtly..i do read them and do give an actualy responce tio there thoughts and ideas and give genuine answers...

but then when i8 come back to the avator thread thing i find a post by blacklava himself sayin he doesnt want people doing 20 threads in a hour or somthing like that... and if they dont keep posting he will know they have done this and not allow them to9 yhave a avator :S w

im thinking to myelf why not?? what difference does it make????

That is actually a fair questions. Here is the answer...every avitar on the table takes a certain amount of memory more than the basic player graphic so we are interested in getting the long term players involved with the forum to share the knowledge and experiences and thought this would be a good incentive to accomplish that.

Also the addition of the personalized homepages for the players in the forums have created a lot of new interest in being involved.

The statement by Blacklava about not posting 20 one word replies in an hour just to get the avitar thread is really just a desire, again, to have you involved, not just as a player but as an active participant.

I think the rule makes sense. Of course it has its dose of arbitrariness, like any rule, but think about it.

- Images do take some server space (though I don't think it is the main issue since you can uplaod pic albums)

- It draws the line somewhere between people who engage with the site and its community on a regualr basis and those who don't. Be it on the social aspects you are not intereted in or in the poker strategy in which you obviously are.

- Forbidding people to spam 20 posts in a short time is simply to avoid noise on the fora, like hollow messages reproduced 20 times. You might not imagine it, but it does really happen.

I understand that in your case, if you are a regular and commited, player you feel more the abitrariness than the grounds.

This said, if your answers to posts were substantial, perhaps the short time rule will be somehow relaxed.

mmmmm,yes very well but..............on an evening during a normal work day, i get 3hours
to chill b 4 i go to bed.So being a keen new poker player i like to play as much as i can at the moment,so in 3 hrs sometimes i may if im lucky manage to get 1,2 at a push maybe 3 good games in.This is not enough for me i want more ......Finally getting to my point i dont really like posting messages(never been good at spelling takes me ages to type)also never been the best of readers.SO LET ME HAVE AVATOR FOR MY

20 posts is nothing really, I go on several forums and have posted hundreds of messages over the years, the first one I joined im still active in and it's a good way to get information on something. So if you join a computer forum then you can get vital information on what to do if something goes wrong with yours, a game forum, you get the latest info from players, not the stupid biased opinions of the 'experts' who have only played the game for a few hours. On here you get tips on how to play poker and can talk about general stuff which you might find something interesting in.
It's all good really and all of us with avatars have posted 20 messages so it's no big deal.

You can still get a set Avatar before posting 20 posts...Join in the chat tho...Its actually a great scene in here...everyones very helpful...Sox

Not enough time to play and be in the forum? If you took a couples of minutes to read an interesting thread and reply I dont think you going to miss the hand of the century. You would have an avatar in less than a month.

ill bet that there are PLENTY of poeple who would join and put up an avatar if it didnt require 20 posts and then not ever come back and then the boss would have to go find and delete them all. he dont have time for that. and personally i think 20 legitimate posts are not enough it should be 50 just to make sure that the people really earn their right to have a poker room avatar. and i think that if it was 50 posts then there should be a claus that says if you are a member for lets say 90 days and you really arent a forum kind of person and you play on a semi daily basis then you should be grandfathered in and be permitted to have a poker room avatar. as far as i am concerned the poker room avatar is like a badge of worhtiness acknolwedging that you are an active member of the op66 community. at least thats how i see it

I have to say I can really understand where your coming from but, You really don't want say 100 people simply posting for Avatars using the space with dribble.I think it's really surposed to be a reward for contributing to the site in a helpful way , and more than that become a long term member who can offer help to newbies starting out in the game..Alot of other sites don't offer Avatars at all..Like I said I think it's surposed to be a reward for contribution? 20 post is a bit much if u don't post much but if u got nothing better to do with your time i guess its ok.
I would have liked to have avatar after getting chat activation , I was a bit disappointed that i had to join a forum to be able to say wd or nh or wp , but i guess thats the way it goes!!!
Good thing its not for real money ATM!!!!

Wow thanks for all the replys and helpful views i didnt expect this sort of help.

thank you mainly towering... you helped me most understand why this rule is set and also thank you to the other people who explained it aswell.

although i can see and sorta agree with the 20 post thing i would ask if there could be like another option to getting the avitar, like..

if you have played for atlease 1-2 weeks have chat activation and are a kean player or something along those lines... like me then you should also be allowed to creat a avitar.

the size of the images should be something about 100MB, because the max size of the images is 19.5k and in the Member list there are about 4900 members which makes 95550k

And yes, i think your right, with this regulation you stimulate the members to do something for the community
