| just lately i seem to have lost my ability to stay and be very patient when playing poker. i use to pride myself on my ability to stay patient and not be forced into chasing hands etc. ive tried turning chat off and listening to music (sorry if i havent been chatty lately but thats why) which did seem to help initially, but i still feel that urge to have the game move a little quicker. ive just come off a sng game in which i should have done better. i made a rash call which lead to me going out too early. Has anyone else found their play change over time...and if so what did you do to get back to playing your usual game? any comments and thoughts most welcome. thx. fut. |

| yes, i think this happens to us all. i was having exactly the problem you describe almost a year ago, so i took 2 months off, i didnt even really visit the forum, when i came back, i was loving poker more than ever. and playing quite well too. another thing i think i needed to do, was start playing with my own money, which i started doing at the end of last year. not to make money, but just to make the game more realistic. i only deposit cash i can afford to lose...

| I can relate to you problem Fut. I think it all started with a bad run.I ended up playing to clinically as if i was playing by the book. Started listening to my instincts a bit more and it seems to paying off because i have hit silver in the BC yesterday and the day before.

| Sounds like a re-occurring story for everyone. I feel like I am just now getting over my lack of patience. Like LfcFan, I too got to clinical about it. Tried analyzing my play etc. For awhile I wondered if I had started playing poorly or was I just out of luck for awhile. I even started some crude analysis during the game. I kept track of how many times during a game I got both hole cards less than 7 versus how many times I got cards greater that 9. In the long run these numbers should be equal. They were not even close. I was getting small cards 4 times as much. I believe that luck is about 75% of a game and skill is about 25% for on line games, which means that a large improvement in skill only makes up for a small loss of luck. Eventually I just gave up on patience and started playing the cards I was dealt. I still lost but it was more fun. Once the fun returned I started playing a little smarter. It worked for me. I'm not as bad as I thought. Good luck and I hope you get through the slump. |

| thank you guys... maybe the issue is im trying toooo hard. its been a while since i won a tourny... have reached many a final table and whats more frustrating ive come 2nd too oftern. still, i cant see why that would make me feel as though my patience has gone. lots would love to finish 2nd or even reach a final table. Some one pm tonight saying about bingo play, and my response was that bingo play doesnt really bother me. but maybe it could be a seed planted thats made me feel restless playing poker. the anticipation of the all-in play. who knows. Still, i feel the same playing cash games. I feel like i need a bigger challenge. hope that doesnt come across as being arrogant in any way. im not saying im a better player than anyone else.... i guess i just feel theres no real goal in any of the games i play... the BC tourny especially... i use to think i gotta get home early so i can play the BC... but now its like.. oh well i'll register and see how i do. anyhow, whatever the reason, i will take on board what you've all said and see if the desire to be patient comes back. thx again. fut. |

| I can relate too mate, and I'm not sure if you've found your answer yet but here's my little bit of wisdom: taking a break is the worst thing you can do. I took about a month off of actually playing poker and recently I've been trying to get back in to my old routine and get back into the swing of things, but honestly it's as if I don't know how to play any more. Like I know the statistics, the odds, right and wrong yet when i get in a hand I don't put it in to practice . So what I'll say is this: stick with it and when you feel the impatience building just simply ignore it. And that can be very easy to do, you just have to know when the impatience is building and just counter it with more patience, get even tighter, just to make sure you avoid getting yourself into that one risky hand that costs you the game.Hope I helped mate, take care and best of luck out there ![]()

| for ages i would only play 1 table, i'd always want to see everything, who bet/called raised etc: to build up a better picture. however, now i find this tedious and often boring, when playing only 20% of hands, and i think i loose concentration. currently i find playing 2 tables better, most plays have become more automatic by trying to use table position, opponants chip stacks and of course the cards, to decide my plays. so i find now switching between tables keeps me more on my toe's and alert. yes still made bad plays, but thats all learning |
