Lightbulb Poker Attitude

Following on from Phatts thread But seriously folks... I was reading a blog about having the right 'attitude' when playing poker, thought I would copy and post it here for anyone interested in reading it...

Quote:
Poker Attitude

Do you play poker on a regular basis? If so, you know just how important it is to have a good attitude game in and game out. And if you are not aware of the type of attitude that you are supposed to have, you should really look into what you can do to change this today. The fact of the matter is that the best poker players in the world have a few things in common. One of the most important is that they have a good attitude that will help them to come out on top more times than not. But with that being said, do you know what type of attitude this consists of?

The number one aspect of a poker attitude is staying positive no matter what. The second that you begin to slack off and feel that you do not have to be positive is the second that you will notice that you are beginning to lose. When it comes down to it the game of poker is all about using your head to beat the other players at the table. If you have a negative attitude you will begin to notice that not only are the other players beating you, but that you are also beating yourself at the same time.

In addition to a positive attitude there are many other things that you should consider. First off, you should never get down on yourself. No matter how many times you lose, you need to make sure that you keep a positive outlook on your game, as well as what you are doing at the table. If you begin to beat yourself up over a simple loss you will start to hinder the way that you perform at the table. And of course this is something that you will want to try to avoid at all costs.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you should not let any outside details affect the way that you play when you sit down at the poker table. This means that if something in your personal life is bothering you, you should leave it in your personal life. If you let outside factors attribute to the way that you play poker you are not going to get very far. The best poker players can zone out these types of things, and only concentrate on what matters most. And of course, the thing that matters most is winning as much as you can.

Finally, you should remember that you and you alone control the attitude that you have. Many new poker players let others dictate the way that they act at the table. You should ignore what the other players are doing so that you can determine your own attitude. Never let anybody else put you in a bad mood or make you look down on yourself when playing poker.

All in all, your attitude at the poker table will go a long way in determining how often you win. Many people concentrate so much on the skills side of the game that they forget about the mental part. Instead of letting this happen to you, you should instead concentrate on both areas. The better your attitude the more chance you have of being a success when you play poker.

Wise words, something I'm improving on, but a working progress for sure.

Should be required reading for all of us so we get a reality check once every so often.

I think we sometimes forget that for most of us it is a free site and where else can one get so much enjoyment at no cost.

Meant to also say that one of the main reasons that it is both a free site and is so enjoyable is because of the time and efforts of generous people like The Texan, Ausangel, King Pete and Starry Star.

You and the rest of the crew (don't know all names) get nowhere near the recognition and thanks you deserve.

So thank you all.

Cheers
