Raise?

Does a raise mean anything anymore on the new script? I just don't get it at all and am wondering what all of your thoughts are?

I THINK THE ANSWER IS NO, RAISING IS ALMOST POINTLESS. THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF RAISING IS TO PROTECT YOUR PREMIUM HAND FROM BEING OUTDRAWN BY SOMEONE HOLDING 7-5 OFFSUIT OR SOME SUCH NONSENSE. SAD TO SAY 5 TIMES THE BIG BLIND AND RAISES LIKE THAT ARE IRRELEVENT, I'VE SEEN PEOPLE RAISE IT 200 TIMES THE BB AND GET 7 CALLERS. EVEN AFTER YOU'VE HIT YOUR FLOP, TOP 2 PAIR, A SET OR WHATEVER, YOU STILL GET CALLED BY SOMEONE YOU'VE PUT ALL IN.THEY'VE GOT A GUT SHOT AND THEY'RE GONNA PLAY IT. MATHEMATICS AND ALL NORMAL POKER CONVENTION ARE OUT OF THE WINDOW.I'VE BEEN PLAYING LIKE A TOTAL MORON RECENTLY, WHEN IN ROME AND ALL THAT. I STILL CAN'T REALLY SEE THE POINT THOUGH. SIMPLE TRUTH IS ,IF YOU WANNA PLAY POKER, PUT YA MONEY DOWN. IF YOU WANNA PLAY FOR FUN, ACCEPT THAT IT'S JUST A BIT OF FUN AND FORGET ALL ABOUT PLAYING PROPERLY. I agree with TW's comments, but this is not a new Phenomenon that is attibutable to the "new script". There have always been and always will be "crazy play" when playing poker for free chips.

i only tend to raise with the ducks......

asides that, i agree with tids and also the idea of getting rid of the bet pot button, maybe this won't lead to as much high betting ont flop, turn etc- when good poker play i reckon is s'posed to be tight and methodical, not insane!

I always try to win period, free or not, but yeah it seems like a lot of players don't really care, maybe we should try to get a bunch of people on the same table who really want to play seriously (lol , yeah right eh?)

I tried hard to earn my chips. Play chips or not, I treat them as if they were my money. I will raise when I feel I have a very good chance of winning. With that said I'm not enjoying this site near as much as I used to. The only place where I've found a good game is in the tournaments. I'm by far the poker player a lot of ppl. are here, but enjoy a good game. Win or loose. (would like to be a winner). The other tables are for bingo players!! I have worked hard for my little chips and just not willing to hand 'em over. Just my point of view.



PS... if ppl. could stop getting all the chips they want, I think it would stop all this all-in all the time. especially ppl. w/like 2-9.
