Default rings vs tournys

i consider myself a good to average tourny player, but feel i stink when it comes to playing the ring tables,in tournys i can sit for 2or 3 hours and play my tight game of poker with the aim of reaching the final table, when i play the rings it seems a much more aggresive game and the aim is to get as many chips as quick as you can,not knocking the ring players and i think we have some very good ring players here, but i just cant adjust my game to play on rings not talking bingo here but i feel its a different game, would like to know if other players feel the same if you play rings do find tourny play different,or if you play both do you adjust your game ,interested to find out and if any one has advice for me on playing rings

The rings are bingo, regardless of the value of the table, ok you might get lucky and find a table playing sensible but all it takes is one bingo player to change all that. The risk is less 'cos you just rebuy.
Personally yes, bingo is bingo and you have to play that way but tournys I tend to play more "sensible". Unfortunately tourny's have become bingo also until you get to the last 20 or so.

Just my opinion.

Feel exactly the same way telboy. I'm not one to criticize the bingo players much because I think it is a legitimate part of the game, and I think they lose more than they gain. It is a completely different game, however I don't change my game much to accommodate the aggressive play. That makes for a lot of frustrating hands. Many times I am forced off of hands that I would like to see. But I guess that is the whole point of these aggressive players. If you watch any of the pros play on wsop you see the same kind of play all be it a little less irrational. I don't know which way is the "right way" to play poker. I do know that I do not enjoy the aggressive "nothing to lose" games so I tend not to play rings at all. That leaves a lot of times during the day that there are no games to play on this site. A lot of times I have an extra hour to play but tournaments are too long and rings are too frustrating. Sometimes I end up playing a tournament that I know I don't have the time to finish. That is not good either because as time runs out I start playing less and less playable hands.

i used to agree with you tel, until i met baz and kev and co a few weeks ago, we went for a real ring game in a casino, i started with 100 quid and after an hour and a half, walked away with over 250 quid. baz suggested that i played how i would on a tourney game, i did, and was great, i have played a few ring games online since, and have done quite well...

I think i tend to play less hands on the ring tables because i know that time isnt counting down, the blinds arent going up and there will be no ante.I will try and limp in with marginal hands alot more on the ring tables though.

I guess its easier for people on rings to read me when i have hand but to combat that,i will usually raise (preflop) the same for a good hand as i will a super hand. Throwing in the odd bluff if im in a late position and everybody has checked before me.Also,on a ring table you could be sat with a few people for more than an hour, they have more time to study you.Perhaps i should be mixing it more on the rings than tornyz.

As for my torny play, well i mix it up quite a bit, mainly because im likely to be sat at a table with lots of people i know (who could already have notes on me) and need to raise my chip stack quite quickly.

You definately need a different game for rings than tornyz

i'v always comsidered myself a better ring game player that a torny 1 and fell this comes from my agresive play stile as on a ring table you can hit only 1 hand and hit it hard to make a good profit from that seson whers in a torny you need to have a better run and and be a lot more consistent over the hole torny

no im happy with my tourny play but dont play rings that often because i never seem to be in the game, must admit i go to the ring games and watch to try to get some ideas on how to play, but feel the aggresive play is the way to go and this is lacking in my game, want to start playing rings for cash but dont have the confidence to play there after my experinces on free chips

dont let you experinces of the play chip ring tables stop you playing the cash 1s thay are 2 very difreng games in facked a tight player on the cash ring tables can do very well when thay have the pationce to sit a waght for a gr8 hand then the confedence to bet it hard

Tel, I hate the ring tables to be quite honest so why do I still play them..? Hmm Good question, simple buddy, its because im a gambler and on the rings you either win fast or lose even faster. I dont know how it effects other peoples games when they switch back to the tournaments, but I feel it has no effect on mine. Steve.

I play ring tables differntly than tourney tables. you can rebuy on the rings so take bigger risks. no rebuys at the tourney so maybe play a little more reserved til i get some chips built up then i take a few risks. its not easy finding no bingo ring tables, but i think its getting better. i try to find the players i know arent into the bingo paly and avoid those that are. as for ur "free" M_80. try the HU one on one sit and gos. most time there is someone there waiting or it doesnt take long for someone to join u. go for the mid range buy in like the 20k and 30k those seem to get HU players more quickly.

was saying that m8 because im not sure what has spoiled my ring game, we have had this chat b4. i built up from nothing as you did and took me ages to be brave enough to even consider playin the 1k tables. A. because i wasn't 100% sure of my game but mainly B. out of respect for the ones already playing there(mainly tho i didnt wanna look like an idiot), but i did quite well and learned a lot in the process.
now comes my next problem, i see the talk of medals etc an think to myselfi wanna be apart of that, i talk to a few ppl an they say go for it an so i start to play the tourneys, again not sure of my game or if i'm good enough and also again out of respect to the players that that entered, im not sure we have that any more, people don't have my mindset ie: respect for the game or the players.

guess what im trying to say is i loved the rings but sadly i hardly ever play them now, it's not just a question of if im good enough now but more of the question am i lucky enough.

I just wish they keep thier ring style of play on the ring tables. But it seams to be kreeping into the op tourneys. A pot raise with AK suited hit the A and some one calling with 58 o/s and hitting str8 on river.Sorry for winging but last 3 days i've had at least a dozen of bad beats.Don't get me wrong if i make a stupid call or get beaten buy a decent had i'll be the first to say nice hand.I do think a tourney player has the finess to get more chips out fo a decent hand then a ring player hopeing for a hit.

from my experience on cash rings, most hands are 5 cards only, ie: your hand and the flop.

dont play a hand if its not worth seeing a flop, there will 90% of the time be a pre flop raise.

so even a decent starting hand on a ring is expensive to play,in other words hit the flop or fold.

if you chase and dont hit it will cost you money

I used to enjoy ring tables, but now it's too expensive for me. All-in pre flop.....don't get it. I just enjoy a good game. Been tryin' to remember tourney times so I can play there. It seems more realistic, free chips or not. I Earned my little chips the hard way and don't just want to hand 'em over. I am still going to the ring tables, but will leave if I see ppl. just going all-in all the time. Wish there was a limit on re-buys, I think a lot of the non-sense bingo would slow down. It won't stop it cause there are some that like playing that way.
