hi telboy id have to sagest for a good relativly safe way to start on the cash side would be to start with the 6 seater double up sit and go's you only need to place 3ed or better to double your buy in now your never going to make a load of monny fast this way but then as you only need to finsh 3ed hopfally your never going to lose a lot ether but it is a gr8 way to gane experence playing as thay do tend to be good poker until you get to only 3 players left as you can gess when 1st 2ed and 3ed all get the same pay out when you down to only 3 players a lot of pepol will give up on trying for the win and just push with many hands but then this in its self is a good way to test you pations

Dont know what accessibility you have to games in your area mate but i play a lot in local pubs and clubs etc. Where i live i can enter a game most nights of the week if required and have recently tried new venues against new players as i also felt that playing in the same two pubs against the same people wasnt moving me forward. Although i had been successful, i was getting bored.

In recent weeks i have got the bug back by trying these new venues - i only play venues with a £10.00 buy in with no re-buys as i feel they ruin the play. The only variation is a game i have played in recently which is £10.00 buy in with a £5.00 headhunter which adds a little spice and usually enables you to get your money back even without winning. The number of players in these games vary between 15 and 50 and minimum for winner is around £100.00 with up to £300.00 in larger games with second, third, fourth also getting a cut.

I avoid the ring tables unless i am really bored as they are nothing more than a joke and ruin your game as you start to see the "merit" in every hand dealt - i play OP66 tournies and the odd ultra outlaw for a laugh.

I know your question was in relation to improving yourself online but there is no better way of improving than playing in a live game even if the stakes are small as the prizes are worth winning.

BTW - i dont ever do the casinos just the pubs and clubs.

If you are ever up Manchester way let me know and you can join in one of the games i play - that goes for anyone else - the offer is there

Cheers

GW

I am intrigued to know what you are asking here. I find it difficult to assess players strenghts/weaknesses online - the game is so much quicker and the there are only a few players i have picked anything from and that pretty much amounts to aggressive/passive and it is only the players at the extreme end of these spectrums that i can remember. I would love to know how many people use the player notes regularly - what do you know about me lol

One of the difficulties i had when i dabbled in the money side of things was lack of physical presence and constant changing of players - i dont think i ever played the same player twice so betting against someone on the button who i just thought was trying to steal the pot was difficult. I did win 160.00 dollars in one game which has left me well up but after that i dont bother - maybe the odd 3 dollar tournie if i cant go out for what ever reason on one of my poker nights. BTW i missed one of those nights to play for you in the international on Tuesday and that was a totally different experience, playing for a team with people egging you on - great stuff

In the real games i can spot certain things very early on even with player i have never met. I also know what one of my main problems is when it comes to a tell, luckily the same tell appears when i am bluffing or when i have hit massive which is a bit of a bonus lol. DO you ever play in these type of games mate

6-seaters... pay top 2
10-seaters... pay top 3

Agree w/ Roo... not a bad way to go... also, I find the HU's can be interesting... not so much the 10-centers or 20-centers, but at $5... better quality of play.

No mate - i can honestly say i havent got anything on you. I will compliment you on the fact that when i see you at a table i know its going to be tough - as i mentioned i only recognise certain players at the extremes of aggressive/passive, i think some of the players play solely for points and average - you regularly see them in the last 15 but they rarely win - they have just sat tight. You know how easy that is as you see players who have registered and not turned up reaching the last 20 before being blinded out - i could name a number of these sort of players but obviously wont. And then you see the other end of the spectrum with the players who are regularly out early or who end up chip leaders earlier taking large stacks to the final stages. Then you see the regluars who are always there or there abouts.

There are certain players that if they raise pre-flop then you know they are really massive as these players would regularly limp with AK, then there are different ways of playing smallish pockets, i can spot certain players techniques with these and i also have my own way - again not going to mention names.

There are a group of players of which you are amongst who regularly do well in the tournies i play and you should take credit being amongst these players.

I would love to play in a live tournie with a group of these as i think it would open up a whole can of worms lol

hi m8 i agree been on the money side for a while now ever since i won a freeroll on old script i find the cash games are a better way to go as there arent so many bingo players and every1 is playing a tight proper game.
i'll play 20c and 50c sit and go's and the $1 double ups and find they are helping my game as i tend to have more patience when i play the op tourney and dont over bet my hand as much altho i still do it when i read the wrong hand(still think ive got a long way to go).
i have taken about $60 off the site and have about $20 still on it so if i can do it you surely can you have a great game m8

hope this helps m8 and look out for me on the tables

I would defo give the sng's ago, tel. you'll find many a familiar face playing these so you should find it a nice way to start. the double-up sng's are very popular as are the lower buy ins. i generally stick to no more than $1 buy-in.

from my experience playing these sng's i find that the style of play would defo suit your game.

the style of play many tend to be try and trap rather than push to take the pot. i also see a lot of players betting over a raise if they think the player might fold. there are some very good players and equally some erratic players too.

as for ring tables i like to play limit tables with a low buy-in. this way i can play for a considerable amount of time getting experience without the risk of loosing to much cash. worth a go mate.

finaly for the tournies... ive played a few and found that in the early stages you will see many big all-ins and lots of rebuys. however, unlike some op tournies, when ive seen all-ins the players generally have a good hand. if tournies are you thing then i'd look for the $100 $250 $500 guaranteed tournies. the buy-ins start from $1 upto $3

anyhow you probably already know everthing ive said, but i hope its helps you decide how you wanna step up your game.

gl tel

I used to play live games at the local bar but I found that the noise and other distractions didn't set well with me. We used to buy in for $5 and there were rebuys for the first 30 minutes. I really enjoyed the games and the poeople and the live contact. I after a year of this I was way ahead in the money. Then I started playing OP66 - nice and quiet. I also improved my game a lot since I started here. I found in the last year that if I wanted to improve my game the best way was to play differently every now and then. Decide before the game how you are going to play and challenge yourself to stick to the plan.

I think you play a really good game now but you can always learn things by trying different approaches.

Something interesting about playing on-line, I find that I lose my concentration and get lazy about my playing. This has never turned out to be a good thing. I don't seem to have that problem in live games.
