Default What happened to op66!

What happened to OP66? When I first came to this site over 2 years ago it had superb free tables, and a superb community where everyone knew everybody. It was quite a basic set up at the start but the players all knew each other and the forum was buzzing. When I mean buzzing if you made a post seconds later it would have several replies. These days hardly anyone is on the forum at all. This site has completely lost its user friendliness and community spirit. To be honest this site has made me the player I am today and got me to the standard of a pro so the only thing I can say is I find it all rather sad. I loved playing here more than anywhere else and I made great friends here. I am great friends with most of the moderators here and with Lava himself but something needs to happen. If we don't return to something similar to what we had in the old days I feel we will lose this site and the community completely. Having said that most of the best players have left and the community is as good as dead. Please please please Mr Lava come up with something to bring it back to the old days

Your friend Baz

I agree the demise of mini tournaments has affected the site most. I remember having to hover above my return key as there was a race to get into these tournaments; it can now take hours to fill one.

Baz Im afraid the site has got too big for the same level of friendliness that was OP66.

Other things that have affected the site are:_

We have a whole group of people who are not under the moderators control. And even there control over op66 players has been eroded due to their powers being diminished.

People no longer just play poker therefore creating a new breed of player

You no longer start with 1000 and have to build up your balance thereby meeting everyone on your way up (or down).

The sit and go's which used to be such a big part of OP66 are not the same by any standards.

The tables that everyone wanted to be on no longer hold the same Kudos that they once did.

There have been a number of promises made which have not been kept

I could go on ..

However the heart of OP66 is still alive and well , anyone who went to the party will tell you that. We are still here for each other and will try to help in any way we can. People move on that is inevitable but we have new members who are taking up the mantle to keep this site the friendliest out there.

Hear Hear Baz .... But i do believe no matter what is done it will never go back , too much is focused on money side and outlaws and all the other games ... I loved our old OP66 but i feel it has been lost forever .

Miss watching you play and having a chat .

My only real Gripe is the play on the ring tables. I used enjoy this and got to know players through it. The standard of play on these tables has now become an absolute joke.

Today i thought i would have a quick go because there was no one in the sit and goes and what do i find - nothing but Bingo

NL1000 i get dealt 88, i raise to 4000 (not classic raise but have to be a bit more aggressive on free chips)and i was UTG - see 2 players fold and then last to act throws 86000 chips at the table - what a joke. So i fold and leave teh table therefore not getting to know any of the players around.

I only bother to play the Opp66 tournies now as they are more fun with a lot of good people playing and it is a challenge to win. That group of people are the main users of the forum and sometimes we will play a 6 seat sit and go together.

I cant comment to much on the community before the change as i joined about 3 months before the new format and hadnt got involved in the forums and such.

All i will say is that with the good group we still have then im not losing heart

well being here over a year myself, and remembering the really good times both on the tables and the forum we had, i fully understand where your coming from Baz.

in my opinion, the unfortunate neccesity to change scripts (tables)due to the old one's being outgrown by the sites popularity has fundermentaly changed the communuty.

unfortunatly we lost some great people then, and have lost others since due to unforseen reliabilty problems that the new script has brought.

and also the network issues are messy, especially for the moderators as we no longer have control over the site.

i do no Lava is working his backside off,and trying his best to keep OP66 a family friendly site with good community spirit.

i see know easy answers here, but i for would love to see the site back to where it was, yes we must have progress with software issues and policing issues, and all try and push in the same direction for it to work

Kev

We need to get back to the old op66 Lava everyone is saying it. Please please please listen to the people of the community before it is lost. Maybe just maybe we can also attract back so many of the great players who played here before and were part of the once great OP66 community. Right on Fae x and Kev

Hun when the change happened we tried everything i was tottally devistated and some people couldnt understand why i was so bothered by it .... I even told one of the programmers that if he was in front of me i would knock him out ( blush) , Nothing we said or did made any difference we were pretty much told to get used to it .

Very sad still . God i miss the old days I like Yourself were one of the original members of the days we could wait for hrs to play .... but it was worth the wait always .xxxx

I remember the hovering waiting for a seat on sit and goes well too, it was quite a feat to be even able to get a seat but you were guaranteed a great game.

I had never played poker before joining the site and while i was slowly building my bank balance up to enable me to play the bigger tournies I used to sit and watch Baz, Jedi, Kingcard, Danzi and the like trying to work out what the heck they were doing (not always possible I am sure you would agree)the atmosphere at some of the tables was electric. And when i had finally earned enough chippies to join these tables it was an honour and gave a real sense of achievment.

I dont know how we can recreate that atmosphere in our new environment .

Yah I know what you mean Fae and I completely agree. Lets hope we are heard this time before everything is lost completely. By the way Kev I put the post in another section so more people would get to see it and comment. More people seem to be reading other topics than poker these days

well i'd like to see some OP66 only tables on the network (rings and sit & go's)

with names for the sit & go's, then we would start to get back to playing with the "old crew" again, and could just help the sit & go's popularity.

Yes cuddycat you hit the nail on the head. When I first saw the top list I played my heart out to try to get to the top. I can actually remember the first time I hit the highroller table. I am not kidding I was shaking and absolutely terrified to lose my chips. I was terrified of Bigmike,CameroKid,Susan and wickedwabbit. All the lower stake tables were named after these players so you had to be worried lol That is the sort of atmosphere we need to create again. It was as if I was playing with real money!

gawd how many times did we beg to go back? i remember chatting to fae and the pair of us were crying! the newcomers just couldnt understand what we were so devastated about. it will never be the same. Lava created something so unbelievably incredibly special, only to take it apart again (sorry BL but i and a lot of others have never been happy here ) oh, what we would give to have to race for a seat on the BAZULTRA
R.I.P. OP66!!

unfortunatly going back was never i viable option, moving was the less of 2 evils.

either find a way forward, or grind to a halt, and down to the sites special community that made it so popular, it also made the old script unsustainable and very close to breaking point. (and not upgradeable unfortunatly)
